Rouda, Feder & Tietjen Announce Merger With McGuinn|Cooper Trial Team

Rouda, Feder & Tietjen merged with Cynthia McGuinn and Miles Cooper, formerly The Veen Firm’s McGuinn|Cooper Trial Team, effective July 1, 2009. The new firm will be called Rouda, Feder, Tietjen & McGuinn. “We're delighted” said firm founder Ronald H. Rouda. “Cynthia is a superb trial attorney with a great reputation and she and Miles bring unique technical and client development skills to the firm.”

Ms. McGuinn has extensive experience trying complex personal injury cases and has consistently obtained seven-figure results in her jury verdicts. She holds the distinction of being the first woman President of the American Board of Trial Advocates’ San Francisco Chapter. A recipient of the Trial Lawyer of the Year Award from the San Francisco Trial Lawyers Association in 2003, Ms. McGuinn has also been annually honored by The Daily Journal and Recorder as one of the Top Women Litigators in California, a title she has held since 2005. In addition to being a Fellow of the American College of Trial Lawyers and The International Society of Barristers, Ms. McGuinn is a Fellow in the International Academy of Trial Lawyers, an organization whose membership is limited to 600 lawyers worldwide. Lawyers are nominated for fellowship based on superior trial and appellate advocacy skills, character, and integrity, and services rendered in promoting the legal profession’s best interests.

Mr. Cooper, who has worked with Ms. McGuinn for the past 13 years, managed the day-to-day operations of their trial team, tried and co-counseled cases, and served as the Veen Firm's Managing Attorney. He recently completed a firm rebranding campaign and implemented technology to improve firm efficiency.

“We're going to miss Cynthia, Miles, and their team, and wish them the best,” said Veen Firm founder Bill Veen, “but I'm glad to be able to give some of our talented up and comers the opportunity that they would not otherwise have had to be promoted.” Mr. Veen noted that The Veen Firm is expanding its footprint to include the new trial team of Anthony Label and Oliver Vallejo.

Ronald Rouda, a former President of the Consumers Attorneys of California and the National President of the American Board of Trial Attorneys, founded his firm in 1980. The firm enjoys a national reputation for successfully representing catastrophically injured plaintiffs. Mr. Rouda, now in his fourth decade of practice, continues to try cases. His most recent case, tried with John Feder, resulted in an $18 million dollar verdict against the City of Los Angeles for a young woman injured in a crosswalk.

Mr. Feder, a finalist for Consumer Attorney of The Year in 2006 from Consumer Attorneys of California, was also nominated for Trial Lawyer of the Year in 2007 by the San Francisco Trial Lawyers Association. He is AV-rated by Martindale-Hubbell and has been selected for Northern California Super Lawyers for the last three years. He is currently Vice President of the Consumer Attorneys of California, and was the 2007 President of the San Francisco Trial Lawyers Association.
